Cayuga Community College Holds Grand Opening of Advanced Manufacturing Institute

Cayuga Community College in Auburn, NY officially debuted its new Advanced Manufacturing Institute with a ribbon-cutting ceremony and very successful open house on January 7. This new institute was designed to give students and local workers the skills and training needed to operate and program equipment.

Yushin America has provided a work cell to the college that includes a YCII-150S series robot equipped with Flexible Teach Software, a robot stand and safety guarding. Students will be able to learn hands on about the use and functionality of a robot and how to program the equipment.

The YCII robots are designed to be more energy efficient, light weight and transmits minimal vibrations with very fast, accurate movement as compared to earlier robots. The three linear motions are powered by independent AC servo motors and drives mated with absolute encoders to permit simultaneous movement of all three axis. Eco-vac technology is included for reduced compressed air consumption. The YCII robot is also equipped with Yushin’s enhanced E-touch compact controller that features a 7.5-inch color LCD panel with function keys and is loaded with Yushin’s Lead-Through Teaching software to enable easy modifications of programs.

Students enrolled will have the opportunity to learn the many aspects of the industry and specialize in some areas including plastics. The college already offers advanced manufacturing, electrical and mechanical technology. This spring, courses will begin in plastics technology.
