3-Axis Take-Out Robots for Injection Molding

The robot enters the mold area along the vertical (down) axis, uses a kick or horizontal axis to reach into the mold cavity, activates the EOAT to secure the part, retracts upward, and traverses horizontally to the downstream position for release. The exact motion sequence is programmed and repeated consistently each molding cycle.

A 3-axis configuration is appropriate when the extraction and placement path can be completed with linear motion and the application does not require additional controlled rotational movement. For the majority of standard part take-out applications, three linear axes provide a repeatable and efficient extraction sequence.

EOAT weight is part of the total payload the robot must carry. Heavier tooling reduces available payload for the part itself and can affect motion performance. The EOAT geometry must also fit the mold access envelope, match the cavity layout, and suit the gripping or pickup method required for the part. EOAT should be specified together with the robot, not added as an afterthought.

If controlled rotation is required for downstream placement, assembly, inspection, or part orientation, Yushin may add engineered EOAT or one of its NC servo wrist configurations (A/C, B/C, or A/B/C) after reviewing the application. Insert loading, overmolding, and complex orientation are supported Yushin capabilities. An articulated robot is not automatically required.

The robot must physically reach into and clear the mold area within the available mold-open window. Stroke requirements on the vertical, kick, and traverse axes are determined by the actual machine and mold dimensions. Combined part and EOAT payload must be within the robot's rated capacity. Take-out time must fit the available window without extending the overall molding cycle. All of these factors should be confirmed for the specific application.

Yushin's 3-axis take-out robots are Cartesian/traverse systems designed specifically for injection molding: they are engineered around the machine geometry, mold access requirements, timing constraints, and part-handling demands of a molding cell. A generic overhead gantry configured for general manufacturing pick-and-place does not automatically translate into an injection molding take-out robot.
